The Marcos administration has allocated P7.8 billion to upgrade 19 airports nationwide this year to improve facilities and passenger experience.
The funding aims to strengthen inter-island connectivity, boost tourism, support local businesses, and create jobs.
Major airports receiving allocations include New Dumaguete (P2.5B), Tacloban (P741.7M), Mati (P700M), and Laoag International (P507.3M), with additional funds for night-rating improvements at Busuanga, Siargao, and Cauayan airports.
The Department of Transportation said the funds will be used for runways, taxiways, terminals, control towers, and navigation and safety equipment.
The upgrades are expected to accommodate increased passenger traffic, especially with the recent visa-free entry policy for Chinese tourists.
