The Gilas Pilipinas 3×3 men’s team fell to Iran, 14-21, but still topped Pool A with a 2-1 record to advance to the quarterfinals of the 6th Asian Beach Games in China.
Despite the loss, the team secured the No. 1 spot through total points, with standout efforts from Jeff Manday and Nic Cabañero.
Coach Patrick Fran said the result serves as strong preparation heading into the knockout stage.
Meanwhile, the Gilas Pilipinas 3×3 women’s team swept Group C after defeating Kyrgyzstan, 21-15, to also reach the quarterfinals.
Key contributions came from Tantoy Ferrer, Mikka Cacho, Gabi Bade, and Kaye Pingol in overcoming an early deficit.
Both teams now await their respective opponents as they aim for deeper runs in the tournament.
