Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez urged ASEAN partners and development institutions to invest in and help accelerate major Philippine railway projects, including the North-South Commuter Railway, Metro Manila Subway, and MRT-7.
Speaking at ASEAN RailCon 2026, Lopez said stronger regional collaboration is essential to building a modern, integrated rail system that supports sustainable development and improves the lives of Filipinos.
He also emphasized the role of the Philippine Railways Institute in training competent and safety-driven rail professionals.
ASEAN and Asian Development Bank officials reaffirmed their support for sustainable railway development, innovation, long-term investment, and continued partnership with the Philippines.
Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works and Highways has assumed control of the P585-million clearing and restoration works for the NSCR Extension Project to help ensure its timely implementation.
