Amid ongoing delays in enrolling public school teachers into the Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) program, the Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) has urged the Department of Education (DepEd) to release the mandated ₱7,000 medical allowance in cash.
The coalition cited logistical challenges with the HMO system and appealed for a practical interim solution to help teachers cover urgent healthcare needs.
DepEd acknowledged the implementation difficulties but views the situation as an opportunity to provide a more comprehensive healthcare package through the HMO.
While supporting a long-term HMO solution, TDC stressed the urgency of cash distribution this year to avoid inconveniences for teachers who have already completed medical examinations.
The group is also seeking dialogue with DepEd officials, including Secretary Sonny Angara, to expedite the release of medical benefits and ensure timely support for educators.
