As the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte enters its second week, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano urged fellow senator-judges to avoid leading questions that could create perceptions of bias or compromise the fairness of the proceedings.
He stressed that questions raised during the trial should not appear to favor either the prosecution or the defense to preserve the credibility of the impeachment court.
Meanwhile, Sen. Panfilo Lacson criticized impeachment court spokesperson Reginald Tongol for publicly reminding senator-judges about the sub judice rule, saying such concerns should instead be addressed internally.
Tongol clarified that he was only explaining the impeachment rules and not accusing any senator-judge of violating them.
Both Cayetano and Lacson emphasized the importance of impartiality and restraint to ensure the trial does not become a political spectacle.
