A House resolution has been filed urging the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to expedite the refund of about P9 billion in Meralco overcollections and complete the process within one year instead of the proposed 36 months.
Rep. Brian Poe said consumers deserve faster relief, especially as households continue to face high electricity costs due to power supply issues and rising rates.
The proposed refund covers overcollections from January to December 2025 and is estimated at around P0.09 per kilowatt-hour.
The resolution also calls on the ERC to conduct a comprehensive audit and verify all refund computations to ensure transparency and fairness.
It further urges the commission to provide regular public updates on the refund’s implementation and computation methodology.
