House prosecutor Terry Ridon challenged Vice President Sara Duterte’s lawyers to explain the alleged lavish credit card spending of her husband, lawyer Manases “Mans” Carpio, when the defense presents its evidence before the Senate impeachment court on Nov. 9.
Ridon questioned transactions that included more than P200,000 in dining expenses in Japan, as well as hundreds of thousands of pesos in shopping purchases in the Philippines and abroad.
Carpio denied wrongdoing, explaining that the Japan restaurant bill was shared among a large group, while the Nike purchases were intended for basketball players and paid for using his personal funds.
The prosecution earlier presented financial records alleging that Duterte had at least P817.87 million in undeclared assets and unexplained wealth from 2022 to 2025, with a broader estimate reaching P1.5 billion.
Duterte has denied the allegations, while her lawyers have questioned the credibility and relevance of the prosecution’s evidence in the remaining impeachment charge concerning unexplained wealth.
