Senators have called for an investigation into the alleged existence of “ghost students” in the Department of Education’s (DepEd) senior high school (SHS) voucher program.
Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada filed Senate Resolution No. 1316, urging the Senate Committee on Basic Education to probe the issue and introduce remedial measures.
Estrada emphasized the importance of properly implementing the SHS voucher program to ensure public funds are used appropriately and benefit legitimate students.
DepEd Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, with actions being taken against the responsible individuals and schools.
The Senate inquiry revealed over P310 million in discrepancies from 2020 to 2023, with at least 12 private schools under investigation for potential violations.
