The Quezon City government officially launched the QC-ANTHILL Circularity Hub at the Payatas Controlled Disposal Facility on October 23, aiming to promote sustainability and circular economy practices.
The project, in partnership with Cebu-based ANTHILL Fabric Gallery, transforms textile waste into new fabrics and products while providing livelihood opportunities to local artisans and weavers.
The facility features weaving looms, cutting machines, and a showroom, supporting upcycling, sustainable design, and circular economy education.
Twenty Payatas artisans will undergo a three-month training program, with some progressing to full-time employment, while Persons Deprived of Liberty will assist in sorting textile waste.
Mayor Joy Belmonte highlighted the initiative as a way to turn urban textile waste into a livelihood and urged local businesses to integrate circular solutions into their supply chains.
