The Philippine National Police (PNP) deployed more than 7,000 personnel across Metro Manila to maintain peace and order during the two-day transport strike that began Monday.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. ordered police units to strengthen security, assist stranded commuters, and coordinate with local governments and other agencies.
The NCR Police Office deployed personnel for protest monitoring, traffic assistance, checkpoints, patrols, and civil disturbance management.
Nartatez said the PNP respects the transport groups’ right to hold a strike while stressing the police mandate to ensure public safety.
The Manibela-led strike is protesting continued increases in oil prices, with demonstrations expected in several areas of the capital.
