COMELEC SEEKS CLARITY ON POSTPONED BSKE ELECTIONS

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is seeking clarity on the postponement of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (BSKE) elections following Congress’ approval of a measure delaying the polls.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia said the postponement could create problems for the poll body because the filing of candidacies is scheduled from September 28 to October 5, 2026.

Garcia said the Comelec needs a clear law on the postponement before the filing period begins.

He stressed that clear legal guidance is important to determine the commission’s next steps regarding the scheduled elections.

Meanwhile, the Comelec will continue performing its duties while awaiting the final law and further guidance on the postponed polls.
