2026 BARANGAY, SK ELECTIONS MAY MOVE TO 2028

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will review the provisions of the bill seeking to postpone the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to 2028 before deciding whether to approve or veto the measure.

Malacañang said Tuesday that the Palace has yet to confirm whether the Senate and House versions have already reached the Office of the President.

The Senate approved the postponement bill on Monday, following the House of Representatives’ approval of its counterpart measure on Sept. 8.

If enacted, the measure would move the elections from Nov. 2, 2026, to Nov. 2, 2028, extending the terms of barangay and SK officials from four to five years.

Election watchdog groups have raised objections to the proposed postponement.
