The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is implementing a new policy for deporting Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) workers to prevent them from evading deportation.
The shift comes after a Senate hearing revealed that three Chinese POGO bosses, who were deported from the Philippines, did not return to China but instead traveled to Taiwan after a layover in Hong Kong.
In response, BI officials announced that deportees will no longer be allowed to purchase tickets with layovers.
The Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) has also urged the BI to prevent deportees from taking connecting flights to avoid such loopholes.
The BI is working to speed up the deportation process, coordinating with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to ensure quick deportment clearances.
