The Department of Education (DepEd) is hopeful for improved results in the recently concluded 2025 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), following the country’s poor performance in previous years.
Under the directive of Education Secretary Sonny Angara, selected students from 208 schools underwent thorough preparation, including digital literacy training and critical thinking exercises.
The DepEd addressed logistical gaps and teacher training through partnerships with edtech providers like Khan Academy Philippines and Frontlearners.
Although results will be released in September 2026, the agency views the assessment as a vital benchmark for shaping future education reforms.
In the 2022 PISA, the Philippines ranked near the bottom globally, with Filipino students scoring significantly below average in math, reading, and science.
