The Philippines has concluded negotiations for its first free trade agreement with a Latin American country through the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with Chile, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) announced.
Trade Secretary Cristina Roque said the agreement will expand the country’s trade network and create new opportunities for Filipino businesses, workers, farmers, consumers, and investors.
The CEPA is expected to boost Philippine exports, improve access to key Chilean products such as salmon and copper, and promote cooperation in innovation, the digital economy, and sustainable development.
The milestone comes as the Philippines and Chile mark 80 years of diplomatic relations and supports the government’s efforts to sustain export growth.
The Philippines is also pursuing free trade agreements with the European Union, Canada, India, and updates to its economic partnership agreement with Japan.
