The Philippines and the European Union have essentially concluded negotiations for a free trade agreement, with the deal expected to be formally signed next year after remaining legal work is completed.
The proposed FTA is expected to expand market access and create opportunities for Filipino farmers, manufacturers, consumers, and micro, small and medium enterprises.
Officials said the agreement could also attract investments, create jobs, diversify supply chains, and support the Philippines’ clean and digital transitions.
After signing, the agreement will still need ratification by the Philippine government and the European Parliament, with both sides aiming to put it into force before the EU’s GSP+ scheme expires at the end of 2027.
Business groups welcomed the conclusion of negotiations, saying the agreement could provide more predictable trading conditions and strengthen Philippine exporters’ access to the European market.
