The Liberal Party has elected Rep. Leila de Lima as chairperson and lawyer Erin Tañada as president, signaling an early start to preparations for the 2028 elections.
Leadership changes were announced by chairman emeritus Sen. Francis Pangilinan during the party’s 80th anniversary at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani.
Pangilinan acknowledged the party faces a dilemma amid a turbulent political environment and ongoing corruption scandals, but emphasized uniting democratic forces for the next electoral cycle.
De Lima called for disciplined political work and advocacy for marginalized sectors, while Tañada stressed systematic early preparations and responsive leadership.
Party officials and allies highlighted the importance of active engagement, with Belmonte urging members to translate activism into concrete democratic reforms.
