Tropical cyclone Saudel has intensified into a severe tropical storm and is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) between Monday and Wednesday, where it will be named Obet.
The storm was located 2,635 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon, packing winds of 110 kph and gusts of 135 kph.
While Obet is not expected to directly hit the country, PAGASA said it could enhance the southwest monsoon.
Northern and Central Luzon may experience light to moderate rains due to the strengthened monsoon.
Another low-pressure area east of Mindanao also has a medium chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within 24 hours.
