The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is set to launch a new ferry system on the Pasig River by late 2026 or early 2027, aiming to ease commuting between east and west Metro Manila.
The Pasig River Intermodal Transportation Project, approved for development, will feature 18 terminals from Plaza Mexico in Manila to Nagpayong in Pasig City, cutting travel time significantly.
The project plans to operate two types of ferries: regular routes and air-conditioned water taxis that can be booked for specific destinations.
To improve connectivity, shuttle buses will link ferry terminals to nearby land transit options like the LRT-1 and public utility vehicles.
The PPA is working closely with the Department of Transportation and the Public-Private Partnership Center, investing up to P800 million annually to sustain the ferry service.
