The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) plans to procure 1,500 new fire trucks in 2027 at an estimated cost of P15 billion.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the purchase will address the shortage of fire trucks and replace units that are decades old.
The planned agreement with South Korea could lower the cost of each truck from around P16 million to P10 million, saving the government about P9 billion.
Remulla said the procurement is part of efforts to improve public safety and emergency response, while also strengthening police mobility and drone use.
He stressed that police, firefighters, and local governments must work together to ensure effective public safety.
