Mary Jane Veloso is set to testify in a Philippine court for the first time since her return to the country in 2024, according to her lawyer Edre Olalia of the National Union of People’s Lawyers.
She will appear before the Mandaluyong City Regional Trial Court in connection with the trafficking in persons, estafa, and illegal recruitment cases she filed against her former recruiters, Ma. Cristina Sergio and Julius Lacanilao.
Olalia said the Supreme Court has already ordered the transfer of the case from Nueva Ecija to Mandaluyong, although a trial date has yet to be set.
Veloso’s parents also met with the Department of Justice for a case conference as proceedings continue on the long-pending complaints.
While her camp is still pursuing clemency, Olalia said they remain hopeful, stressing that justice for Veloso is still ongoing.
