President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will travel to Japan for a four-day state visit focused on strengthening defense cooperation, energy security, and trade relations amid global oil price volatility.
During the visit from May 26 to 29, Marcos is expected to meet Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae to discuss maritime security, food security, and the future of the Philippines-Japan strategic partnership.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said both countries are expected to announce new agreements covering defense, trade, investment, and human resource development.
Talks will also include the implementation of existing defense agreements, including the Reciprocal Access Agreement and continued support for the modernization of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
President Marcos and First Lady Liza Marcos are also scheduled to attend official ceremonies at the Imperial Palace and meet with Japanese business groups and the Filipino community in Japan.
