Leyte runner Chrishia Mae Tajarros secured her second consecutive gold medal in the girls’ secondary 3,000-meter run at the 66th Palarong Pambansa, narrowly missing the meet record with a 10:04.76 finish.
The 14-year-old Tanauan National High School athlete improved her personal best and pulled away in the final laps, continuing her strong rise in national youth athletics after a silver debut in 2024.
Tajarros credited her intensive year-long preparation and family inspiration, saying she hopes to eventually compete in the Olympics while aiming for a third straight Palaro gold next year.
Her teammate secured silver while another runner from Davao Region took bronze in a close finish.
The competition, which features over 13,000 athletes nationwide, also saw new records in javelin and strong performances across multiple events, with cash incentives introduced for medalists under a new sports development program.
