GROUP CALLS ON DILG TO WATCH LGU EXECUTIVES TIED TO AGRI SCAMS

An anti-crime and corruption group has urged the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to closely monitor local officials allegedly involved in agricultural trading scams targeting farmers.

Ipabitag Mo executive director Apple Meneses said some barangay, municipal, and city officials are engaging in trading activities that may negatively affect farmer communities.

He warned that officials involved in crop trading could take advantage of struggling farmers for profit.

The group said LGUs should instead protect farmers from abusive traders and support them during disasters and periods of poor harvests.

Complaints from farmers in Nueva Ecija and Tarlac include cases of non-payment for crops and other trading-related scams.
