Boxer Weljon Mindoro has been ruled out as a replacement for Eumir Marcial in the 80kg division at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games after suffering a TKO loss to Mexican Carlos Ocampo in Los Angeles last week.
Mindoro, a 2025 SEA Games bronze medalist in the 75kg class, was considered for Marcial’s slot before his defeat.
Marcial is scheduled to face Omar Ulises Huerta in a professional bout in Temecula, California, on Sept. 19, with his availability for the Asian Games depending on the result and his medical condition.
Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines president Marcus Manalo said the Philippines will withdraw from the 80kg event if Marcial cannot make it in time, while the boxer remains open to competing in Nagoya.
The Philippine boxing team is currently training in Bangkok before moving to Nishio City for another camp, with Carlo Paalam, Junmilardo Ogayre, Norlan Petecio, Aira Villegas, Riza Pasuit and Nesthy Petecio among those preparing for the Games.
