Transport group Manibela launched a three-day strike on Tuesday, halting jeepney operations across Metro Manila to protest alleged abuses faced by drivers and the government’s “vague promises.” The group also condemned the “payola” system, accusing the Land Transportation Office (LTO) of bribery practices. Commuters were left stranded in key areas, with Manibela asserting that public transportation in the capital is fully paralyzed. The strike also criticized Malacañang’s directive for the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to address driver concerns, calling it insufficient to meet the reality on the ground. The Philippine National Police placed vehicles on standby to assist stranded passengers, according to acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.
