Karl Eldrew Yulo leads the Philippines’ delegation at the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships, which began Thursday at Newport World Resorts.
The 17-year-old, trained by coach Munehiro Kugimiya—the same mentor of Paris Olympics double gold medalist Carlos Yulo—is set to showcase his skills in floor exercise, rings, vault, and parallel bars.
Originally slated to have only two representatives, the Philippines was allowed to field full men’s and women’s teams, with Sabina Tayag, Maxine Bondoc, and Jellian Bantilan joining Elisabeth Antone in the women’s division.
Gymnastics officials and Philippine Sports Commission chair Pato Gregorio emphasized that the competition is an invaluable experience for the country’s young athletes aiming for international success.
The all-around finals are scheduled for Saturday, followed by individual apparatus finals on Sunday and Monday.
