HOUSE EYES SUMMONS FOR META CEO ZUCKERBERG

The House deferred approval of the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s proposed 2027 budget as lawmakers seek to summon Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg over Facebook safety concerns.

Lawmakers cited delayed takedowns of violent content, child safety issues, and misinformation, as well as Meta’s lack of a local office.

The DICT said Meta continues to fall short of its responsibility for youth safety.

Meanwhile, the House said the 2027 national budget will prioritize food and energy security, critical infrastructure, and climate resilience.

In the Senate, lawmakers scrutinized the National Irrigation Administration’s proposed PHP46.36-billion budget over cuts to irrigation projects and a sharp increase in its quick response fund.
