Senator Sherwin Gatchalian supports retaining the Office of the Vice President’s (OVP) proposed 2026 budget of P902.8 million, which recently passed the Senate finance subcommittee for plenary consideration.
This contrasts with the House of Representatives’ earlier decision to cut the OVP’s budget by P156 million, reducing it to around P700 million, the same level as in 2025.
Gatchalian argued that the OVP’s requested budget increase is modest and should not be trimmed.
The vice president’s office had a budget of P2.3 billion in 2023 at the start of the Marcos administration.
The tension between the Marcos administration and the Duterte family has intensified amid political fallout, including the vice president’s resignation from the cabinet and the ICC’s move against former President Duterte.
