Women’s group GABRIELA has condemned the Indang Municipal Police Station in Cavite for posting “Iwas Rape Tips” on social media, calling them victim-blaming and harmful to survivors.
The tips, which advised women to avoid dark areas and strangers, shift the responsibility for preventing sexual assault from perpetrators to potential victims.
GABRIELA secretary-general Clarice Palce said the advice perpetuates the false notion that rape is caused by women’s choices rather than offenders’ actions.
The group also criticized the PNP for failing to address sexual violence within its own ranks, citing recent cases involving police personnel.
GABRIELA urged the PNP and the Marcos administration to focus on educating themselves, holding perpetrators accountable, and promoting public safety measures that prioritize consent and justice.
