The Marcos administration is holding off on raising public transport fares as fuel prices continue to surge, with the government considering targeted subsidies and other assistance for drivers and transport groups.
The Department of Transportation said fuel discounts may be expanded to include more transport modes, while inflation will also be considered in any fare adjustment.
Diesel prices rose by PHP8.82 per liter, gasoline by PHP4.88, and kerosene by PHP6.47 in the latest adjustment, marking the third major fuel price increase this month.
Over three weeks, diesel has increased by PHP18.31 per liter, gasoline by PHP15.25, and kerosene by PHP16.67.
Meanwhile, transport group Piston has announced a two-day strike on Sept. 29 and 30 amid continued fuel price increases, as the government seeks to maximize subsidies and other measures to ease the burden on commuters and drivers.
