The Department of the Interior and Local Government has mandated the use of body-worn cameras during all Bureau of Fire Protection inspections to ensure accountability and deter corrupt practices.
Fire safety inspectors must record the entire inspection process, including travel, on-site evaluation, and discussion of findings, with footage turned over to station custodians.
Establishment owners will be informed of the recording and can request a copy within seven working days, while inspectors are prohibited from recommending or selling specific fire equipment.
Secretary Jonvic Remulla emphasized the policy promotes consistency, proper documentation, and transparency following allegations of corrupt practices involving overpriced fire extinguishers.
The move comes amid calls to hold BFP officials accountable, including a demand for the dismissal of BFP chief Jesus Fernandez over alleged kickbacks.
