The Caraga region was formally declared under a state of Stable Internal Peace and Security (SIPS), marking the end of decades of insurgency in the area.
The declaration followed the insurgency-free status of all provinces and Butuan City after the collapse of the New People’s Army’s North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee.
Government officials, local leaders, and former rebels attended the ceremony in Butuan City to celebrate the milestone.
A peace marker was unveiled, and participants signed a pledge to sustain peace, security, and development in the region.
Former rebels also welcomed the declaration, saying it would help them reunite with their families and communities.
