More than 9.12 million metric tons of silt, waste, and debris have been removed from major Philippine waterways since 2020 under San Miguel Corporation’s Better Rivers PH program.
The latest cleanup under the government’s Oplan Kontra Baha cleared over 1.04 million metric tons from river systems in Tullahan, San Juan, Laguna, and Bulacan, covering 24.29 kilometers.
SMC said the initiative focuses on maintaining earlier cleanup gains to prevent blockages and sustain river capacity for flood control.
The bulk of recent waste removal came from Bulacan, while other rivers also saw significant clearing efforts.
The company emphasized the need for continued maintenance and public cooperation through proper waste disposal to keep waterways clean.
