Quezon City First District Rep. Arjo Atayde was spotted courtside at a July basketball game just one seat away from dismissed DPWH Bulacan district engineer Henry Alcantara, who was removed for alleged involvement in ghost flood control projects.
Alcantara was found guilty of administrative violations and accused of facilitating kickbacks and gambling.
Atayde, meanwhile, was named by contractors Pacifico and Sarah Discaya as one of 17 officials allegedly demanding kickbacks but denied any wrongdoing or dealings with the Discayas.
Photos of Atayde meeting the Discayas and posing with a flood project linked to a blacklisted contractor also circulated, which he dismissed as innocent interactions.
His wife, actress Maine Mendoza, defended him, asserting that their wealth is earned and denying any allegations of corruption.
