Marikina City 2nd District Rep. Miro Quimbo praised Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon and Public Works Secretary Banoy Lopez for advancing a proposed operating protocol for Upper Wawa Dam ahead of the expected Super El Niño.
Quimbo said coordinated dam operations, timely warnings, and carefully planned water releases are essential to preventing floods and maintaining adequate water supplies.
He stressed that the protocol must consider the expected drought conditions through the first quarter of 2027 while protecting downstream communities.
The lawmaker also urged agencies to base water-release decisions on weather forecasts and ensure sufficient reserves for water supply recovery.
He added that the measures should complement other flood-control projects to protect vulnerable communities in Marikina, particularly Tumana and Nangka.
