Akbayan Party-list lawmakers are pushing for higher wages, better working conditions, and expanded benefits for domestic workers through House Bill No. 11764, which seeks to amend the Kasambahay Law.
Rep. Perci Cendaña said the measure aims to ensure fair compensation, adequate rest, and stronger workplace protections for kasambahays, including those hired through online platforms.
The bill proposes an eight-hour workday, overtime limits, minimum wages based on regional rates for small service and retail establishments, and standardized employment contracts.
It also seeks to protect domestic workers’ rights to organize, prohibit recruitment fees, and improve their access to SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG benefits.
Cendaña said the proposed amendments aim to give domestic workers the recognition, protection, and fair compensation they deserve.
