The Philippines and India pledged to deepen defense cooperation during talks between Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. and Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh in Cebu on October 28.
Teodoro committed to deploying a Philippine liaison officer to India’s Information Fusion Centre–Indian Ocean Region to strengthen maritime information-sharing.
Both countries also discussed joint defense production, expanded military engagement, and progress on the BrahMos missile project.
Their cooperation includes joint naval exercises, reciprocal ship visits, military staff talks, and a working group on counterterrorism.
Singh also emphasized freedom of navigation and adherence to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea amid ongoing maritime disputes in the South China Sea.
