Akbayan party-list has filed a House resolution seeking an investigation into the Philippines’ participation in the US-led Pax Silica initiative, citing concerns over the government’s alleged rush to finalize the agreement.
The group said Congress should review the deal’s provisions and assess its potential impact on national interests before further commitments are made.
While the project is expected to generate jobs and economic growth through an AI and advanced manufacturing hub in New Clark City, stakeholders have raised environmental, social, and governance concerns.
The proposed inquiry will examine the initiative’s possible effects on natural resources, local communities, and long-term sustainability.
Akbayan said the probe is necessary to ensure transparency and protect the country’s interests.
