MARCOS ADDRESSES CONCERNS OVER PAX SILICA

President Marcos said Filipinos could benefit from the proposed Pax Silica project in Capas, Tarlac, despite concerns over resource exploitation and the displacement of indigenous peoples.

He said the government would not allow foreign companies to exploit Philippine minerals without its approval and stressed the need to process critical minerals locally to create jobs and add value.

Marcos added that partnerships with foreign investors are necessary to develop the country’s capabilities, technology and workforce.

Science and Technology Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. said the project would focus on semiconductor production for AI technology rather than AI data centers, reducing its water requirements.

Senators, meanwhile, said they would support the project only with strict social safeguards, resource independence and full transparency.
