The Philippines will host a fully virtual gathering of Southeast Asian women lawmakers on April 27 as part of its push for more adaptive and cost-efficient regional cooperation under the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).
The meeting, led by the Coordinating Committee of Women Parliamentarians of AIPA, will be conducted via video conference, with House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III set to deliver the keynote address.
Dy said the shift to online engagements aligns with efforts to streamline official meetings amid global economic pressures, including rising oil prices and logistical costs.
Discussions will focus on strengthening women’s political leadership, addressing gender gaps, and supporting women-led MSMEs across ASEAN.
Despite the move online, the Philippines reaffirmed its commitment to parliamentary diplomacy and continued regional cooperation under AIPA.
