TOYOTA PHILIPPINES LOWERS CAR OUTPUT TARGET AMID WEAK DEMAND

Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMP) expects vehicle production to fall by nearly 6 percent this year to about 60,000 units amid weaker demand and higher fuel prices.

The projected output is nearly 4,000 units below the 63,804 vehicles produced last year.

Vehicle sales from January to August also declined by around 9 percent to 133,300 units, driven by a 15 percent drop in commercial vehicle sales despite a 15 percent increase in passenger car sales.

TMP’s production during the first eight months fell 10 percent to 38,221 units, while sales of electrified vehicles rose 11 percent to 15,078 units.

The company plans to boost demand by offering more Tamaraw body styles and specialized conversions for commercial uses.
