Vice President Sara Duterte questioned the recent Ombudsman order reopening access to statements of assets, liabilities, and net worth (SALNs), calling it a “show” with an underlying motive.
She said SALNs have been accessible for years by simply requesting them from the Ombudsman’s office.
Duterte cited that journalists, including those from the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, accessed her SALN as early as 2019, before restrictions were imposed.
The restrictions came in 2020 under former Ombudsman Samuel Martires, who limited SALN releases despite criticisms.
Duterte expressed skepticism about the new order by Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla, saying it seemed unnecessary since SALNs could already be obtained before.
