ROMUALDEZ MOVED TO QC JAIL AFTER DOCTORS CLEAR HOSPITAL DISCHARGE

Former House Speaker Martin Romualdez was transferred to the New Quezon City Jail on Monday after government doctors found him medically stable and no longer in need of hospital confinement.

The Sandiganbayan Third Division has scheduled his arraignment and pre-trial at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, in connection with a ₱7.44-billion plunder case

Doctors from the Philippine General Hospital said Romualdez’s chronic heart and cerebrovascular conditions do not currently require inpatient treatment and that the jail can manage his medical needs.

Jail officials also assured the court that he can continue using his CPAP machine, taking prescribed medicines, and consulting his private doctors while detained.

Romualdez faces allegations of receiving ₱7.44 billion in kickbacks from contractors and other parties linked to flood-control, infrastructure, and other government projects.
