Sen. Erwin Tulfo warned power companies against imposing unjustified electricity rate hikes and providing poor service during the expected “super El Niño.”
He said price adjustments must remain fair and reasonable and should not add to the financial burden of Filipino families.
Tulfo also warned that he would use his oversight powers against power generators and distribution utilities that exploit the climate crisis to increase profits.
He urged the Department of Energy and the Energy Regulatory Commission to ensure stable electricity supply and prevent artificial shortages that could justify higher rates.
State weather forecasters expect El Niño to intensify from September to December and continue through the first half of 2027.
