The Sandiganbayan Third Division ordered Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) officials to testify on the detention status of former House Speaker Martin Romualdez amid allegations that he was allowed to leave jail freely.
The court also directed the New Quezon City Jail warden to preserve all relevant CCTV footage and digital records.
Malacañang denied the allegations, citing initial CCTV checks that showed no recorded movement of Romualdez outside the facility.
The BJMP has launched an investigation and maintained that all detainees must follow the same custodial rules.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court rejected Romualdez’s petition to stop the Ombudsman’s preliminary investigation into his plunder case.
