President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed the Department of Agriculture (DA) to ensure sufficient rice supply and reduce prices amid global uncertainties and the Middle East crisis. The order was issued during a UPLIFT Committee meeting, where officials discussed maintaining supply of key commodities and sustaining government services. Malacañang emphasized that authorities must take action against hoarders and profiteers exploiting the situation, with possible legal cases to be filed against violators. The government also warned it may impose a price cap if collusion to manipulate rice prices is proven. Officials said the UPLIFT framework will continue guiding coordinated efforts to stabilize prices and protect consumers.
