MTRCB CALLS IN ‘IT’S SHOWTIME’ PRODUCERS FOLLOWING VICE GANDA CONTROVERSY

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has summoned the producers of It’s Showtime to appear before its Hearing and Adjudication Committee following complaints over the program’s July 24 episode.

The complaints alleged that host Vice Ganda made racially insensitive and colorist remarks during the “Memerimar” skit, while the viral “lugaw” segment also drew criticism.

The MTRCB said it is reviewing whether the episode violated provisions of Presidential Decree No. 1986 on broadcast content.

Vice Ganda has since apologized on-air, saying the show never intended to offend viewers and would strive to do better.

The board has yet to decide whether sanctions will be imposed pending the outcome of its hearing and deliberations.
