The Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) will field its rising athletes in the 2026 Asian Taekwondo Indonesia Open Championships from Aug. 1 to 5 in Jakarta, aiming to build on its successful campaign in South Korea.
PTA Grandmaster Sung-Chon Hong expressed confidence in the SMART/MVPSF Philippine team, which will compete against athletes from 30 countries.
The team enters the tournament after winning nine medals, including four golds, at the recent 7th Kimunyong Cup in Seoul.
Backed by the Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, and MILO, the squad features athletes competing in both kyorugi and poomsae events.
Hong said the tournament will also serve as a platform to prepare promising Filipino taekwondo athletes for future international competitions, including the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
