The Department of Health reminded the public to use PhilHealth’s outpatient dental benefits, which cover up to ₱1,000 per member for check-ups, cleanings, and preventive procedures like fluoride application and sealants.
DOH officials advised regular dental visits, ideally twice a year, or more often for those prone to plaque, and encouraged parents to bring children to the dentist as soon as they develop teeth.
The benefits allow members to receive two cleanings, a check-up, and preventive care annually, with PhilHealth currently accrediting dentists to accept patients under the program.
DOH officials highlighted the nationwide dentist shortage, noting there is only one dentist for every 52,000 Filipinos, far below the WHO-recommended ratio.
The dental coverage was approved in 2024 and aims to promote early care and prevent costly, advanced dental problems.
